LionHeart Bernese Mountain Dogs was founded in 1993 when we acquired our
first berner, Pioneers Liberty. I was so amazed by the depth of character in these
dogs that it wasn't long before I went looking for our second berner and first
Champion, Ozzy.

These two were quite the pair and the more time I spent with them while achieving
their championships, and the more berners I was around, the more head over heals
I became. I have had dogs all of my life, but I have never had a dog like this.
They had me, no doubt about it, I was hooked!!

I was fortunate enough to have been one of the lucky ones that started out with a
wonderful breeder and mentor by the name of Ruth Reynolds. Thanks to Ruth for
taking her time with me, her patients as well as her knowledge of this breed, I
learned a lot and the priorities that I was looking for in a breeder I continue to
hold most valuable to this day.

Since then I have gone on to obtain many more dogs and achieve many more
championships with my dogs as well as learn many lessons and work with many
great breeders. I have breed several litters and produced many champions, both in
the conformation and working rings, The biggest lesson I have learned........is that
you will never know it all. I will always be learning from these dogs.

I place great importance on health, longevity and soundness in the dogs that I
have bred. Along with that, I strive for a dog that possess the type I desire as
well as protecting the over all integrity of this breed.

I am the founder of the Bernese Auction Rescue Coalition. A rescue that is
dedicated to protecting the Bernese Mountain Dogs that are so cruelly sold at
dog auctions, puppy mills or through dog brokers. You can visit this site to learn
more at

I have always been an avid supporter of rescue and have heard many times that
"breeders can't be rescue". I find that statement to be ridiculous. As a breeder I
feel that I am obligated to protect the breed that I am helping to promote
through my breeding and showing.

I have a great support team behind LionHeart.....My incredibly patient husband
of 18+ years, 5 great kids and a wonderful team of friends and co breeders.

A big part of the LionHeart Team are Courtney Erickson and Abbey Brower.
They are two exceptional people that have taken every effort and opportunity they
have had to learn as much as they cold about this breed and how they want to
participate in it. Because the three of us appear to have the same goals and
priorities, we have found that working together has come very easily. I am very
excited for what the future holds in store for the three of us.
